"The Canal" is a limited edition printer's proof serigraph on paper by Christian Title (1932-2020), numbered and hand signed by the artist. Includes Letter of Authenticity. Measures approx. 40" x 31" (border), 24" x 36" (image).

Interested in art throughout his youth, Christian Title began his formal art education at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, before continuing his studies at Woodbury College, the Beaux-Arts Academie in Paris, and finally, the Sorbonne University. Over the course of his extensive studies, Title became increasingly influenced by the works of modern masters such as Andre L'Hote, Oskar Kokoschka and Fernand Leger. He also spent a great deal of time studying the artwork of master impressionist painters, especially Monet and Pissaro. With a great deal of practice and study, Title earned a one-man show at the Rene Drouet Gallery in 1954. The following year he completed his doctoral degree at the Sorbonne, returning to the United States in 1956.

Title quickly became close with two artists in studios hear his own, Paul Gerchik and Milton Gershgoren, and the work he created after this point shows a much more brilliant color scheme. Title paints scenes that have a sense of familiarity to them, while remaining mysterious and ethereal. He creates this effect with a combination of intense observation and incredible imagination; he infuses the essence of everyday scenes with remarkable otherworldly aspects. His creativity is only enhanced by his vibrant palette and passionate brushstrokes. While his paintings were very well-received, Title decided to be more than just an artist, opening DeVille Galleries in 1957 and Colville Publishing in 1981 to exhibit, sell, and make limited edition prints of the remarkable art of a few select modern talents. He continues to create, produce, and sell art that is collected across the United States and around the world.

Christian Title passed away in April of 2020.
