2005 P American Bison Jefferson Nickel Gem Uncirculated

This 2005 P Jefferson Nickel features the popular American Bison reverse design and is presented in a CoinHub holder labeled Gem Uncirculated.

The coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and carries the P mint mark. It was released as part of the United States Mint's Westward Journey Nickel Series, which temporarily replaced the traditional Monticello reverse with special designs celebrating the exploration and expansion of the American West.

The reverse features a powerful American bison, a design inspired by the historic Buffalo Nickel. The inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA appears above the bison with E PLURIBUS UNUM and FIVE CENTS below.

The obverse features Thomas Jefferson and represents a major redesign introduced during the Westward Journey series.

The American Bison nickel was issued for only part of 2005 before the reverse design changed again later that year to the Ocean in View design. This short period of production has made the Bison design a popular modern nickel among collectors.
