Antique Grecian Harp By J Erat & Sons Circa 1836
Get a great deal with this online auction for an antique Erat harp presented by Property Room. Jacob Erat was a harp builder in London who died in 1821. His 2 sons took over the harp building business. The amazingly detailed carving of a Lion, a crown and a Unicorn is only about 2 inches across. The words in the top part read: HONI SOIT QUI MAI. The words in the banner on the bottom read: DIEU ET MON DROIT. Honi soit qui mal y pense:
'Shame to him who thinks it Evil.'

- Cosmetic Condition: Poor; there are many broken/missing pieces including a large piece at the end of the shoulder. The design on top and bottom is cracked and has missing broken off pieces. The soundboard, through which the strings pass, appears to retain the original decoration but has numerous thin cracks on the surface. There are cracks on the backside of the soundboard.
- Testing Results: This harp needs a pedal box repair and a new neck among other repairs to the structure. The pillar is loose, the strings are missing, as is 1 foot pedal.
